Untitled Portraits — Anatolia

The colour portraits from across Anatolia — Doğubayazıt under Ararat, the village of Hörmetçi near Kayseri, and the highlands of Rize. Lambs, kids, and the few bright things a hard country keeps.

[ Series manifesto ]

This is the colour half of the Anatolia work. Out here colour is rare — a child's bright sweater against the snow, a lamb held up to the camera, an old man laughing. I kept these in colour because the day actually had it, and there was so little of it that throwing it away felt wrong. Nothing posed. I asked, I waited, and people let me make one frame before they got back to the animals.
