She sat in front of a wall of stacked dung cakes and held the kid close to her chest.

This story imagines, it does not document. It is what the photograph made me feel.
Her sweater is worn at the cuffs, and there are freckles across her cheeks. She looked at me without smiling and without looking away. The goat stayed calm in her arms the whole time.
