Where the Hill Disappears
I met him near the top, where the hill gives itself to the fog and you cannot tell where the grass ends.
This story imagines, it does not document. It is what the photograph made me feel.
The goats came first, a dark river of horns, and he stood among them with his hands resting on their backs. He looked at me without much surprise, as if strangers come up here sometimes and then leave. I made this frame before either of us said anything.
