The Herder — A Story / 02Closer, in the Dark
Long-haired black goats fill the foreground in low light while the young herder stands blurred behind them in the mist — fine art portrait by Sefa Yamak, Anatolia series.

Closer, in the Dark

I crouched and let the goats come right up to the lens.

This story imagines, it does not document. It is what the photograph made me feel.

Their faces are sharp and his is not, a soft shape standing behind them in the grey. The big males watched me with those long flat horns, calm but not friendly. He stayed where he was and let them decide how close they wanted to be.
