The Easiest Smile

Two big front teeth and not a trace of shyness.

This story imagines, it does not document. It is what the photograph made me feel.

The cold doesn't seem to land on the kids the way it lands on everyone else up here. He was grinning before I had the camera up, so I went with that instead of waiting for something tidier. His shirt had little cars stitched onto the collar and behind him it was all white. Sometimes the best frame is the one the kid hands you before you are ready.
