Untitled Portraits — Nepal / 05The Smoke Break
Black and white profile of an elderly man with dotted and patterned face paint, a printed headcloth and a thin cigarette held between his lips — fine art portrait by Sefa Yamak, Nepal series.

Kathmandu, Nepal · 2017

The Smoke Break

He was smoking when I came up, and he kept smoking, which I liked.

This story imagines, it does not document. It is what the photograph made me feel.

The dots and small patterns on his face were careful work, done by hand, and the headcloth had script printed across it. He turned his head a little to the side and looked off at something. I took the photo in profile and didn't ask him to stop.
