Untitled Portraits — Nepal / 04The Folded Hands
Black and white photograph of an elderly person in a checked shirt, their clasped wrinkled hands held toward the camera and in sharp focus while the face behind softens — fine art portrait by Sefa Yamak, Nepal series.

Kathmandu, Nepal · 2017

The Folded Hands

I focused on the hands and let the face fall back into the dark.

This story imagines, it does not document. It is what the photograph made me feel.

They were clasped together and held out toward me, and every wrinkle caught the light. I don't know if it was a greeting or just the way she was sitting. The shirt was a worn check, and the room behind was almost black.
