Snow on the Scarf
The child had a thick knitted scarf wound up to the chin, with snow caught all over it.

This story imagines, it does not document. It is what the photograph made me feel.
Freckles spread across the nose under the hood. There was a ledge of snow on the brick wall behind. The look was steady, a little tired of the cold, and I did not ask for more than that.
