Untitled Portraits — Istanbul / 10Feeding the Pigeons
A boy in a dark fleece reaches toward a flock of pigeons on a mosque square under heavy clouds — street photograph by Sefa Yamak, Istanbul series.

Istanbul, Turkey · 2018

Feeding the Pigeons

The clouds came down dark and heavy over the square.

This story imagines, it does not document. It is what the photograph made me feel.

A boy crouched and stretched his hand into the pigeons, and they swarmed the stone around his feet. Behind him people crossed the square and the mosque steps rose in the corner. I caught the moment his fingers nearly touched a bird.
