Untitled Portraits — India / 21Holding Her Up
A man in white sits on a cot and holds a large framed portrait of a veiled woman up over his own face in a courtyard — fine art portrait by Sefa Yamak, India series.

Pushkar, India · 2018

Holding Her Up

He wanted me to photograph the framed portrait more than himself, so he raised it to cover his own face.

This story imagines, it does not document. It is what the photograph made me feel.

Only the top of his head and his glasses show above the frame. A second framed photograph leans on the cot beside him, and a water pot sits on the ledge behind. The room was cool and almost empty.
