Carried
The woman has her back to me and the child is looking over her shoulder.
// Story
This story imagines, it does not document. It is what the photograph made me feel.
The same patterned cloth covers them both, so at first they read as one shape. The little one rests a cheek against her and watches me with half-closed eyes. Washing hangs on a line in the dark behind them.
