Two Old Companions
An old man and his horse, both dressed up for the winter games, standing around in the cold while they waited.
This story imagines, it does not document. It is what the photograph made me feel.
I shot it close and from the side, his face and the horse's head almost touching the edges of the frame. The two profiles had been together so long they had started to rhyme, the same long nose, the same patience. The horse's headpiece was decorated for the day. He wasn't posing. He was just waiting, and I caught him at it.
