The Hardest Winter / 12Through Glass
A young woman seen through a window, the street reflected over her face, black-and-white, eastern Anatolia — fine art portrait by Sefa Yamak, The Hardest Winter series.

Kars, Eastern Anatolia, Turkey · 2017

Through Glass

I saw her through a window with the street printed across her face in reflection.

This story imagines, it does not document. It is what the photograph made me feel.

It is a second picture I couldn't have set up if I tried, the glass laying one image over another. She wasn't looking at me. She was looking past, out at something beyond the window. I kept still so the reflection wouldn't shift, and took it through the glass the way I found it.

— Sefa Yamak, eastern Anatolia, winter. The Hardest Winter series.
